Yoga Workshop: Learning to Stand – 12 May 2018
May 12, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
R350
The first set of yoga postures that are recommended to be taught to practitioners, according to the Iyengar method, are the standing postures. They build physical strength and stamina and cultivate stability in the mind. They are also the most accessible of the yoga asanas as the movements are large (as opposed to subtle) and the positioning of the body is fairly obvious from an observational point of view. However, as is the case with most of the disciplines in the yogic system, the depth to which one can explore these asanas is virtually unlimited.
In this workshop we will be exploring the fundamental requisites of the traditional standing yoga postures including tadasana, uttansana, uttitha trikonasana, virabhadrasana I, II & III and some of the twisted standing asanas. We will move from gross to subtle to fine tune our experience of the asanas and establish a clearer samskara or body memory for each.
