The difference between yoga and asana
April 29, 2015To headstand or not to headstand

Headstand: Here you can see an example of how impaired shoulder mobility can cause arching of the lower back.
A lot of my students ask me about if I think that headstand (sirsasana) should be taught or not. My general answer is a diversion: “headstand is a very complicated posture with many moving parts and considerations and it’s very difficult to do it correctly without some distortion or subsequent damage.” A few years ago I came acros this article and I think it goes into much more depth and explores the pro’s and con’s in a balanced and thougt provoking way. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
